Life Lesson

Dear beloved son/daughter,

Here are 10 of life's lessons I would like to impart to you.

Lesson 1
Nothing in life is for free. You have to work hard in everything you do. Although you'll have a natural aura of favour on your life, that doesn't mean you should be cruising through life. You owe it to yourself to live it to your fullest potential.

Lesson 2
Respect yourself. Never let other people talk you down. You should know that you're a beautiful being and that we love you very much. Furthermore, respect for others start with respecting yourself. Just like loving others starts with loving yourself. Respecting yourself means you won't be ripped off because you won't allow others to take advantage of you.

Lesson 3
Respect others. We're all human. We should not take advantage of people's weakness. We should not judge based on the colour of one's skin, or looks, or job, or background or religion. Everyone deserves to be viewed with equal standing.

Lesson 4
Honour thy father and mother. It'll get increasingly difficult to do that as you get older but do remember that your parents have lived longer than you and have many invaluable experiences that makes them much wiser than you. When we say no, it's because we love you.

Lesson 5
Be kind to animals. This I trust that you will because you've grown up with the most loveable animal on earth: Fudgie. Through Fudgie, you've learnt that animals feel pain, love, hunger and are innocent in every way, and add immeasurable joy and love to your life.

Lesson 6
Follow your heart and reach for the stars. You might never get there but you'll get a lot further than if you don't even try.

Lesson 7
Love your planet. We don't own the planet, we only safeguard it for our children. And our children for their children. This is something that we in this day and age are acutely aware of, with dwindling resources, melting ice caps, and other globalwarming catastrophes threatening the comfortable lives that a lot of us live. Unfortunately, this comfort that we enjoy has come at a great cost to our planet. Therefore, changing our ways and learning to live in harmony with our planet, while critically important for us, will be even more so for you.

Lesson 8
Love like you've never been hurt. Heartbreak in one's life is a given and while love can be painful, it is also the greatest gift that any of us can receive. Tarnishing that gift with doubt or apprehension means that you will never truly feel the unique joy and satisfaction that true love gives. Hopefully, the love between your father and I has taught you that love truly is the foundation of family and companionship.

Lesson 9
When your mother says, you just wait till your father comes home, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Lesson 10
Always question. We should always strive for truth. And one never gets the truth by just accepting what others tell you. The only way you'll find the truth is by questioning, by interrogating contradictory views and by learning from difference opinions.
